Milner family letters, 1850-1860.

Family correspondence, primarily to Nathan Milner from his siblings. The Milners were originally from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and comments in some of the letters suggest that they were Quakers. Two letters, written in 1851 and 1852 by Samuel Milner, describe experiences in the gold camps in California. In a letter from Goodyear's Bar, he writes of his voyage to California, his arrival in San Francisco, and his mining experience. In the second letter, written from Cox's Bar, he gives further accounts of mining and mentions that he is ready to return home. In 1854 Harriet Milner writes to her brother Nathan from Fulton County, Illinois and describes their settlement, the drought, and her lack of money. An 1859 letter, written from Glen Roy, Ohio by Ruth Kirk [nee Milner?] to Rachel Kirk, details social events and family ailments. Other letters give news of family and friends and of financial matters.
